Connor* is a twelve-year-old boy who came to Camp Kirk for the first
time in 2013. He has Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder and a
significant Learning Disability and communication disorder.
For that
reason, Connor is an extremely anxious boy with very low self-esteem
and was never able to undertake anything without his parents being
directly involved. His coming to camp was certainly a huge challenge
and a major accomplishment.
We soon recognized that he is a very
compassionate young man with a wonderful sense of humour. Although
he certainly had some struggles along the way, camp opened up a
whole new avenue for him in terms of his ability to socialize with peers
and engage in group activities.
Connor recently sent us an email to
express how much he misses camp and saying how excited he is at
the thought of returning next summer.
